Your suggestion "to look at more than just the rated scanning settings and also consider the overall usage" is a good one that I'm taking to heart.

Note: I used the Epson 2450 scanner prior to getting the V700 and there is VERY noticeable improvement difference and the Operator time is greatly reduced due to the excellent software mentioned above as well as the V700 does a great job for serving my needs. My comments may be more applicable when scanning Negatives or Slides than for scanning Photos since neither have Automatic Photo Feeders. You will certainly appreciate any help to reduce your attending time when scanning since it is a slow process. I am NOT suggesting you need (or should want) the V700, instead just suggesting for you to look at more than just the rated scanning settings and also consider the overall usage of "which ever" scanner you decide upon.
Also, the negative and slide holders are very versatile and useful for reducing the "Operator attendant time" especially regarding the Number of Negatives or Slides handled by the Carriers. I have been using the V700 for a couple years and the Epson Scanning software shipped with that scanner is excellent which I prefer over VueScan software which I have. I don't have and have not used either the V500 or the V600. Also, another part to look at is the work flow for using each model. If that's the case I'd rather put the money towards a new lens.ĭarryl, perhaps the primary difference may be in the software supplied with the different scanners.
I just don't want to spend it and end up with basically the same scanner. It's not that I can't aford the V500/V600. Given that the V500 and V600 spec are almost the same, if I do upgrade, I'll go the V500 route. I started looking at the V600 as the replacement to my 2400 but then found a v500 for $60 less.
